The Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association has announced the cancellation of its 2021 Portland International Auto Show, scheduled Feb. 24 to 28,

The association said its next show will take place Feb. 23-27, 2022. This year's show was canceled because of the current restrictions Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has imposed on Multnomah County to slow the spread of the virus.

"We have held off making this decision in hopes that the opportunity to hold our show in February, or move to later dates, would be possible for all of those who eagerly anticipate it each year. Of course, the health and safety of all of the workers, exhibitors and attendees who make the auto show such a special event are of vital importance," said Greg Remensperger, executive vice president of the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association, which owns and produces the Portland International Auto Show.

"We were encouraged to see the success of the Orlando Auto Show in Florida recently, but our state's restrictions are different, and the earliest would have been toward the end of the year due to the size of our indoor event. At that point it makes more sense to simply wait until the following year's dates," Remensperger said.

Held at the Oregon Convention Center, the Portland International Auto Show is the largest display of new vehicles in the Pacific Northwest. It traditionally features some 500 new cars, trucks, SUVs and powersports vehicles from more than 35 manufacturers in a family-friendly environment, attracting some 90,000 attendees to downtown Portland each year.

The show also has featured an annual Sneak Peek Charity Party in recent years that has raised millions of dollars for local charities.
