100 years ago: Schultze auto put to use Xmas - Red Bluff Daily News

W.H. Schultze’s big Cole touring car was stolen Christmas night, given some hard usage that night and yesterday and then left on Rio street at a late hour last night.

Schultze left the car at the corner of Main and Crittenden streets while at dinner at the Garrett home. About 11:30 o’clock he missed the car and immediately notified the sheriff’s office. Officers in other cities were notified to be on the watch for the car which was thought to have been stolen by a professional auto thief.

Late developments show that the car was taken by local talent, who, after having their Christmas parade, returned it in none the best of condition.

One axle is bent, one rear spring also bent and other damage done.

The local authorities are working on the case and everything tends to indicate that they will identify the parties who took the car. Sheriff Ballard says he intends to make an example of them. It is a serious offense to take an auto without the owner’s consent, for even a spin around the block.
