Tuscaloosa County auto supplier to add 162 jobs - AL.com

An auto supplier working with Mercedes-Benz’s plan to produce electric vehicles is expanding in Tuscaloosa County.

Schnellecke Logistics Alabama will move to a new building near the Mercedes-Benz U.S. International automobile plant in Vance, and plans to add 162 jobs.

Gov. Kay Ivey this week announced a $258,000 grant for the project. The company plans to begin hiring once its 530,000-square-foot logistics warehouse is completed. Within three years, the company plans to have a workforce of 373 people.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Tuscaloosa County is providing a local match of $64,500 for the project.

“From the start, Alabama’s vehicle manufacturing facilities have produced top-of-the-line automobiles and are poised to continue doing the same as the automobile industry transitions toward electric vehicles,” Ivey said.
