Crime Report: stolen cars and auto break-ins - Chestnut Hill Local

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy for the two-week period between May 24 to June 6. Some dates earlier than the current period took place at that date and reported after the fact.

Chestnut Hill

May 23 Theft from vehicle at W. Wissahickon Ave and E. Northwestern Ave. A woman parked her car at the location and returned to find her rear passenger window smashed and her ID and credit cards taken.

May 24 Theft on the 8400 block of Germantown Ave. A business reported approximately $500 worth of flowers and plants stolen from location.

May 25 Theft from vehicle on Valley Green Rd. Complainants told police they found the rear driver side window of their car broken and two purses containing ID and credit cards taken.

May 27 Stolen vehicle on the 700 block of Wolcott Dr. A man parked his black Kawasaki motorcycle at the location at 10 p.m. and found it missing at 2 a.m. the next morning.

May 31 Burglary on the 100 block of W. Willow Grove Ave.  A woman was away from home between May 28 and 31. When she returned, she found $4,000 in antique rugs and another $4,000 in antique jewelry missing. The thieves left a FedEx clipboard behind with paperwork.

June 5 Theft from vehicle at W. Wissahickon Ave and E. Northwestern Ave. A woman parked her car at the location and returned to find her front passenger window smashed. Taken were an iPhone 12 Pro worth $1,000 and a wallet containing $50 in cash.

June 5 Theft from vehicle on the 100 block of E. Bells Mill Rd. A woman parked her car to take a walk. When she returned, her car’s rear driver side window was smashed and a leather bag containing her wallet, debit cards, credit cards, ID and $40 in cash was taken.

 Mt. Airy

May 13 Stolen car on the 6800 block of Emlen Street. A woman told police her friend took her keys and left with her car, a dark blue Hyundai. The woman has not been able to reach her friend for weeks.

May 20 Theft from retail on the 7200 block of Germantown Ave. A manager observed a former employee take $40 in cash from the register.

May 22 Theft from residence on the 7400 block of Emlen Street. A woman told police that she is unable to find a Cartier watch worth $20,000. She believes it was taken from a dresser in her master bedroom.

May 24 Retail theft on the 7000 block of Germantown Ave. An employee saw a man fill a backpack with various items and leave the store without paying.

May 24 Stolen car on the 400 block of W. Allens Lane. A person reported that someone entered his car and took his Samsung Galaxy S20 phone worth approximately $1,000.

May 25. Theft at Wine and Spirits store, 7204 Germantown Ave. A store employee took two bottles of Moscato wine worth $10 from the store. He was arrested by police and faces charges.

May 25 Theft from vehicle on the 300 block of W Mt. Airy Ave. A person reported that the catalytic converter of his Toyota Prius had been taken off of the vehicle.

May 27 Theft from vehicle at Park Line Drive and W Hortter St. A woman parked her car at the location to take a walk in the park. When she returned she discovered her passenger side window broken and her wallet containing ID, $60 in cash and credit cards missing. A charge was made to one of her cards for $400 at CVS.

May 28 Theft from vehicle on the 400 block of W. Ellet St. A man parked his vehicle at the location and returned to find his front driver side door ajar. Taken was a backpack containing marijuana and rolling papers. Complainant has a medical marijuana card.

May 29 Theft on the 7100 block of Germantown Ave. A woman said she left her purse behind the bar at her place of work and noticed it was missing after receiving a text alert that a credit card purchase had been made on one of her cards at a CVS.

May 30 Stolen car on the 6oo block of E. Sedgwick St. A man parked his car and left it running while he went inside of a pizza place. When he returned, his car was gone.

May 30 Stolen car on 100 block of E. Upsal St. A woman parked her car at the location and returned to find her car missing.

May 30 Theft form vehicle on the unit block of E. Upsal St. A woman found the rear passenger side window of her car smashed and found her sunglasses and $20 in cash missing.

June 2 Theft on the 7000 block of McCallum St. A homeowner observed a man on his porch opening a delivered package with a knife. The man took $50 in dog food from the package.

June 4 Theft from vehicle at Kitchens Lane and Wissahickon Ave. A woman found her rear side window smashed and an Acer laptop worth $800 stolen from the car.

June 5 Stolen car on the 7200 block of Germantown Ave. A man parked his car at the location on May 29. When he returned on June 5, his car was gone.

June 5 Theft from vehicle on the 1000 block of Kitchens Lane. A woman reported that someone broke the right rear window of her car and took a bag worth $250.
