The owner of a Westville business was arrested on a charge of corruption after a sheriff’s office investigation found that he was selling stolen auto parts.

William T. Scott, 52, of Kouts, owner of Catalytic Exchange in Westville, was arrested June 10, 2021, after a large-scale investigation, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation started May 5 when deputies responded to a Clinton Township residence on a report of a burglary in progress. After follow-up interviews, investigators learned that stolen auto parts were being taken to a La Porte County business and then sold. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) identified the business as Catalytic Exchange, located in the 5600 south block of U.S. 421.

On May 7, a search revealed several hundred auto parts at the business. The investigation continued and on June 10 a warrant was issued for Scott’s arrest for Corrupt Business Influence, Level 5 Felony. He was arrested later that day at his business.

Scott was released later that day from La Porte County Jail after a $15,000 cash bond was posted. Court action is pending.
